Coach Joseph J. Loyd Jr. is in his 11th year at DeSoto ISD, where he currently serves as a Varsity Football Assistant Wide Receiver Coach, Freshman Football Wide Receiver-Tight Ends Coach/Offensive Coordinator, as well as Assistant Coach for Varsity/Freshman Basketball. Throughout his tenure, Coach Loyd has been an essential member of the high school football coaching staff, helping lead the team to three Texas Division II 6A Football State Championships (2016, 2022, and 2023). Notably, the Eagles achieved a perfect 16-0 record in both the 2016 and 2023 seasons under the staff's guidance.

From 2017 to 2022, Coach Loyd also served as the Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach at DeSoto McCowan Middle School. During that period, he led his teams to an impeccable 52-0 record and secured the Best Southwest Middle School District Championship each year from 2019 to 2022, a testament to his leadership and commitment to excellence at all levels of the program.

A proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University (Class of 2013), Coach Loyd also has deep roots in Texas high school athletics, having graduated from Lufkin High School in 1998. He began his coaching career in 2013 at Nacogdoches High School, where he served as the Varsity/Junior Varsity Wide Receiver Coach, Head Freshman Football Coach/Offensive Coordinator, Head Freshman Basketball Coach, and Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach.

Coach Loyd’s mission as an educator is to develop young men and women of character and integrity within a culture of greatness. His coaching philosophy revolves around teaching the values of hard work, discipline, teamwork, and academic achievement—guiding his players to become not only successful athletes but also strong, well-rounded individuals.

Looking ahead, Coach Loyd is excited to continue his work with the DeSoto Eagles and help lead both the Football and Basketball teams to another 6A State Championship. Away from the field, Coach Loyd is a devoted family man. He and his lovely wife Tamara, who have been married for 20 years, are the proud parents of four outstanding children: LaDaijah (27), Clyde (26), TaKaira (24), and Joseph (19).
